ECU remapping basically owerwrites the default software on the Engine Control Unit (ECU) which manages the performance and output of the engine. It is done by adjusting various parameters within the software map such as fuel, boost pressure, ignition advance, throttle pedal response etc. to get more performance out the engine but within safe limits. A good branded ecu remap which has been tried and tested worldwide does not in any way stress the engine or affect its life if the vehicle is driven properly.
Both Diesel and petrol engines can be tuned through the process of ecu remapping thus achieving greater performance, lesser turbo lag, more torque and even more fuel efficiency if the vehicle is driven at reasonable speeds.
